Meanwhile, the app or app that you are downloading from Google Play Store on your Android devices is an APK file. If you own an Android device you will likely have heard of an APK file. However, creating a .apk file from an already installed app is a really smart solution. The .apk file thus created can be installed without flagging incompatibilities on any other device.
What is an APK File?
APK is the short form for Android Package Kit and is the file format that Android uses to distribute and install apps. It contains all the elements that an app needs to install correctly on your device. Just like Windows (PC) systems use a .exe file for installing software, macOS (Mac) systems use .dmg, while the APK does the same for Android.
But, you don’t see the actual APK file when downloading any app from Play Store. The Play Store will instead do the installation internally without giving you access to the APK file itself. Just like installing apps from the macOS app store or from the Windows Store on your PC. But, if you install apps from outside the Google Play Store, the APK file will be required.
