How to Enable Facebook Captions and Subtitles

In this post, we will guide you on how to enable captions and subtitles for Facebook videos on PC, Android and, iPhone. Facebook clips have captions. Unlike YouTube closed captions, Facebook doesn’t automatically generate captions for a video. If a video has captions, you should turn them on. The person uploading the video needs to add captions. If they don’t, there’s no way to get captions for it. That’s also why you don’t see a lot of captions on Facebook videos.

So, here are the steps to enable captions or subtitles on Facebook:

Step 1. Open Facebook.com on any browser then login to your Facebook account.

Step 2. Click the down arrow icon at the top right-hand corner then select > Settings & privacy > Settings.

Step 3. Scroll down and select Videos under the Settings menu.

Step 4. Finally, select On next to the Always show captions.

You can customize subtitles to your Facebook videos. By default, the subtitles are white on a gray translucent background. They’re pretty easy to read. You can change the color and size of the text, the color of the background, and the opacity of the text.

Next to the ‘Captions Show‘ screen, click the Edit button. Open the dropdown next to the attribute you want to adjust and pick the choice from the presets available.

Unfortunately, we could not find the captions option on the Facebook app. However, if you’re using a Samsung phone then you need to enable the Live Caption feature.

• Go to the Settings app.
• Tap Accessibility.

If you’re using Facebook on iOS devices like iPhone and iPad then you can adjust your device settings to show captions, when available.

1. Go to Settings.
2. Tap on Accessibility.
3. Tap on Subtitles & Captioning.
4. Turn on the switch next to Closed Captions + SDH.
