If you’re looking to delay updates, you don’t need to permanently disable the app. You will delay updates until you are ready to install them. You can postpone updates up to 35 days using the Settings app.

Step 1. On the search bar, type Windows Update settings then open it.

Step 2. Select Advanced options.

Step 3. To pause updates, select a date in the dropdown under Pause updates and updates will be paused until your chosen date.

Once the steps have been completed, your computer will no longer receive notifications of any kind until the day you mentioned it. Once your computer hits the pause mark, you will require Windows 10 to download and install the latest updates to make it available again.

How to Turn Off the Windows 10 Update Service (Permanently)

The below steps apply to both Windows 10 Home and Professional. Nevertheless, Windows Updates will be completely disabled; those changes will need to be reversed if there is an update that you want to install.

Step 1. Press Windows key + R simultaneously to open Run. Once the Run window launches, type services.msc and select OK.

Step 2. Select the Windows Update service from the Services list.

Step 3. Once you’ve found the Windows Update service, right-click on it then select Stop or select the Stop icon on the top to stop the service.

Step 4. Once the service has stopped, right-click Windows Update and select Properties.

Step 5. Click on the General tab, select the Startup type dropdown menu, then select Disabled. Select Apply, then select OK.

When you want to re-enable automatic updates you just follow the same procedure except you select Automatic when choosing the Startup Type.
