Microsoft added the “Ultimate Performance mode” power scheme to Windows 10 April 2018 Update to optimize the system’s performance. In this feature, I will show you how to enable the Ultimate Performance mode in Windows 10 using PowerShell as an admin because the “Ultimate Performance” power plan option may not be available on some systems, especially if you are using a laptop.
However, the Ultimate Performance Power Plan is only available with high-end PCs running directly on the power, and there is no easy way for all PCs to allow this. That said, I’m not going to recommend this mode for laptops because it will use a lot of battery, but you can use it for your best gaming experience if you’re sure you want it.

What is the Ultimate Performance Power Plan?
What the Ultimate Performance Power Plan in Windows 10 does is improve high-power systems’ efficiency. It is designed to reduce or remove fine-grained power management techniques linked to micro-latencies. You experience a micro-latency if you note a slight delay between the moment your OS understands that a piece of hardware needs more power and the time it is actually delivered. It can still make a difference, no matter how short the delay is.
Furthermore, The Ultimate Performance Plan eliminates hardware polling to see if more energy is needed and allows the hardware to use all the power it needs. Any power-saving features are also disabled to further enhance performance. Because of this, battery-powered devices are not given this option by default because it can consume more power and destroy the battery much faster.

How to Get the Ultimate Performance Power Plan in Windows 10 using PowerShell
As I’ve mentioned earlier, the Ultimate Performance power plan option in Windows 10 or Windows 8 may not be available on some systems, especially if you are using a laptop. However, you can still enable the feature using PowerShell. To do this, you need to follow the instructions below:
NOTE: The Ultimate Performance mode will make applications perform faster, and it will also consume a lot of battery at the same time.
Step 1. Right-click the Windows icon on your taskbar and then select Windows PowerShell (Admin) from the list.
Step 2. If prompted to give permission to the app, click Yes.
Step 3. The Windows PowerShell window will appear. Now, copy the command below and run it via Windows PowerShell:
powercfg -duplicatescheme e9a42b02-d5df-448d-aa00-03f14749eb61
Step 4. If it is successful in adding the Ultimate Performance Power scheme, it will show the Ultimate Performance. If not, it will show “Unable to create a new power scheme”.
How to Enable Ultimate Performance Power Plan
- Press the Windows key + I to open Settings.
- Select System.
- Select Power & sleep then click Additional power settings.
- Click the down arrow icon next to Show additional plans to expand.
- Now, simply enable the Ultimate Performance mode.

After following your steps above. I restarted my PC and went to change the power settings but the only option listed was Balanced same as before. I ran the Powershell as Admin and pasted the code right in. It was successfull. Prior to this I updated to the latest Win 10 Update as well. Do you have any further suggestions?
Same question/issue, this isn’t working for me anymore. I had the high and ultimate performance options enabled before the latest Windows update, but now they are gone. Does anybody know if Microsoft really disallow these?
