Apple released iOS 18 for iPhones, iPadOS 18 for iPads and macOS 15 Sequoia for Macs. Meanwhile, Android is known for its customization but now with iOS 18, you can also customize the app color on your iPhone and iPad. So, this post will show you how to change iPhone app colors in iOS 18 without Shortcuts app.
In iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, you have the power to customize your app icons on the Home Screen and App Library.
Here’s how:
Rearrange Apps Anywhere: You’re no longer limited to a grid layout. Move app icons freely around the screen, creating gaps or placing them in the middle. This flexibility ensures important details aren’t hidden by icons.
Resize Widgets: Expand widgets for quick glances at calendar events, reminders, or weather forecasts without opening the apps.
Adjust Icon Theme: Choose between Light and Dark modes for your app icons. There’s also a Tinted option, allowing you to match icons with your wallpaper color.
Enlarge App Icons: Make icons larger for improved visibility and a cleaner look.

How to Change and Customize the App Icon Colors in iPhone (iOS 18)
1. Start from the Home Screen and press and hold in an empty area.
2. Tap “Edit” in the top left corner.
3. Now select “Customize.”
4. When you’re in this menu, you have a couple of options:
- Light: This maintains the regular appearance of your app icons and widgets, regardless of whether your device is in Dark Mode or Light Mode.
- Dark: When you choose the “Dark” option, certain app icons and widgets will adopt a darker appearance. However, it’s important to note that not all apps currently support this feature, as seen in the screenshot below. Developers have the choice to enable a dark look for their app icons.
- Automatic: If you prefer your app icons and widgets to automatically switch between Dark Mode and Light Mode based on your device settings, choose the “Automatic” option. This way, your iPhone or iPad will adapt seamlessly to the current mode.
- Tinted: To get rid of all pop colors, select Tinted and use the sliders to give each app icon the hue you want. You may choose a tint using the top slider, and its strength can be changed with the bottom slider. Your app icons will turn black and white if you drag the bottom slider all the way to the left.
In addition to choosing a color from the slider, you have a couple more options for customizing your app icons:
- Color Picker: Use the color picker tool to select a specific color from your wallpaper. Simply drag it over a spot on your wallpaper, and your app icons will match that color.
- Sun Icon: Tap the sun icon to toggle between dark and light appearances. This feature is available in both the Dark and Tinted styles.
Here are some important points to consider regarding app icon customization in iOS 18:
In the beta version, you can only apply the app color change to all apps collectively; individual customization isn’t available yet.
Currently, the dark mode app icon change only affects Apple’s built-in apps. However, third-party apps may receive this feature in future updates.
When using the tinting feature in iOS 18, the color change applies to both first-party and third-party apps during the beta phase.
