So, in this guide, you will learn how to change the Local Account profile picture in Windows 10/11. Remember that the process to change the start screen or welcome screen picture is different on the Local Account and the Microsoft accounts. Here, I will show the process to change the local account picture.
Meanwhile, the image of your account is what you see on your Windows sign-in screen and on the Start menu. Windows assigns a default profile picture to new user accounts on Windows 10, but it is easy to adjust that to any picture you want.
How to Change the Local Account Picture in Windows 10/11
Tired of seeing your current Windows 10/11 profile picture? Time to change it to something else. Here’s how to change the profile picture if you are using a Local Account instead of a Microsoft account:
Note: The below screenshots are taken on Windows 11 and the steps are the same for Windows 11 as well.
Step 1. Press the Windows Key + I to open Windows Settings.
Step 2. Click Accounts.
Step 3. Select Your info.

Step 4. The Accounts page lets you change your picture in two main ways:
Windows 10:

Browse for one: To assign a picture already on your computer, click the Browse button. A new window appears, showing photos in your Pictures folder. Click the desired picture and click the Choose Image button. Windows quickly slap that picture atop your Start menu.

Camera: This option, available only for people with a camera attached to their computers, lets you take a quick selfie for your account photo.
Windows 11:
- Take a photo.
- Choose a file.

Step 5. For the purpose of this guide, I will select Choose a file.
Step 6. Navigate to the picture you want to use as your new account picture and then click the Choose Picture button.

Note that Windows will resize and crop the image you pick automatically. You should try cropping and resizing the picture yourself if you don’t get the result you want from the image you picked. For the sign-in page, Windows uses an image of 448 x 448 pixels.
The three most recently selected photos will be shown as thumbnails below your profile image, so you can quickly move back to a previously used picture. To revert to it instantly, select either of the thumbnails.
