OS X Mountain Lion (version 10.8) is a major update for Apple’s macOS, the operating system used on Macintosh computers. It was released on July 25, 2012, and was available for purchase and download through Apple’s Mac App Store. This release marked a change in Apple’s strategy, as they decided to release new versions of OS X online every year, instead of every two years.

Additionally, the iChat application was replaced with a version of iOS’s Messages, and a Notification Center, similar to the one on iOS devices, was added to group updates from various applications in one place.

The operating system also allowed users to quickly share content on Twitter through integrated links. Initially, Apple had plans to integrate Facebook as well, but that feature was not ready at the time of the release and was made available as a downloadable update later on.
