Live Caption is one of the most innovative additions you’ll find on Android devices. First demonstrated at Google I/O 2019, the feature automatically transcribes on-device voice from video playback in real time. When it launched, it was initially a Pixel 4 exclusive, but since then the capability has extended to older Pixel versions. The Galaxy S20 launched with Live Caption, and as One UI 2.5 rolls out it’s coming to more Samsung handsets now. In this post, you will learn how to enable live caption on Samsung Galaxy devices.
However, this functionality uses an API that is present in Android 10. It allows the audio to be automatically played on the device. However, several of the OEMs took their time to carry out this feature on their devices.
Live Caption is an amazing technology that you can use to build captions on your phone in real-time for videos, podcasts, or even voice notes, all without sending Google any information. Not only is Live Caption useful when watching videos, but it’s also much more critical when it comes to accessibility.
