There’s a time when you would like to mute or silence your Galaxy phone temporarily. This post will teach you how to temporarily silence Samsung Galaxy phones running One UI 6.1 based on Android 14.
Meanwhile, smartphones can be useful in one’s everyday life, but random alerts from unexpected phone calls or messages can also be annoying in some situations. Yet, substantial software updates are being released with enhanced privacy features that are primarily geared at resolving such concerns. Other than the standard DND or Do Not Disturb function, there are alternative ways to mute calls and notifications on your new Samsung Galaxy smartphone. The so-called temporary mute function is one of them.
What Does “Temporary Mute” Mean and How Does it Operate?
Placing the phone on silent or vibrate mode is a common practice to prevent disruptions from smartphone alerts and notifications. Only incoming calls and texts cause the phone to vibrate while it is in vibration mode. You won’t hear any ring notifications for incoming calls or texts when it’s muted. Even if this satisfies your requirement to eliminate sound disruptions, there are occasions when you can forget to return the phone to ring mode. This can eventually cause you to miss certain crucial calls and texts.
Do Not Disturb mode is designed as an alternate remedy. Even when the smartphone is in ring mode, sound notifications are blocked when the DND function is activated. Another essential sound feature was included in Android Oreo when it was released. And the name of the function is Temporary Mute.
You may put your smartphone in silent mode for many minutes or several hours with Temporary Mute. The phone will automatically return to ring mode or vibrate when the allotted time has passed.
How to Temporarily Silence Samsung Phones
Here’s how to enable temporary mute on a Galaxy phone:
1. Go to the Settings app.
2. Tap Sounds and vibration.
3. Select Mute and then enable Temporary mute.
4. After that, select Mute for. Now, choose 1 hour, 2 hours, or 3 hours.
5. You can also set a custom time, tap Custom, and set the time and tap Done.
Following this, choose the appropriate time length next to the Mute option under Sound Mode. Your phone will automatically switch to the muted mode or quiet mode for the duration indicated if this setting is used. In essence, it functions like a countdown clock.
The phone will return to the original sound mode it was in before the temporary mute function was engaged after the mute period is up.
That’s all. This is how you can temporarily silence your Samsung Galaxy phone. This feature is also available for the older One UI versions.
