How to Disable the Power On Lid Open in Dell Laptops

When you lift the lid on most modern laptops launched in the last several years, they immediately start. For example, when I open the lid on my Dell Inspiron 7506 2n1, it starts up immediately. The function is convenient since it eliminates the need to click the power button to turn on the laptop. You will be able to continue your work practically immediately thanks to this function, especially if you employ the hibernation feature.

Disable the Power On Lid Open on Dell Inspiron and Vostro

This function cannot be turned on in Windows 10/11 or previous versions. That is, you will not be able to enable it if your laptop does not support it. However, it appears that the function may be disabled. But it can be disabled via Dell BIOS setup.

Step 1. Restart your Dell laptop and then press the F2 key to go to Dell BIOS setup.

Step 2. Navigate the Power menu and then turn off the Power On Lid Open.

When you close the lid, there are various alternative power options to meet your laptop usage and demands. Shutting down your laptop will turn it off entirely and preserve all of your data before it shuts off. Sleeping consumes very little power but keeps your PC in a ready-to-use state as soon as you lift the lid. Sleeping will also preserve your work and will shut down entirely if the battery is going low. Hibernation is similar to sleep, but it is meant to use even less power and is the preferable option to consider if you won’t be using your laptop for an extended period of time.

• Open Control Panel > Power Options.
• On the left-hand side of the Power Options screen, you’ll see an option that says Choose what closing the lid does. Click it.
• From there, select the behavior you’d like your PC to use when closing the lid. In the drop-down menu, select the action you’d prefer: Do Nothing, Sleep, Hibernate, and Shut down.

So, these were the methods to disable the power on lid open in Dell Inspiron and Dell Vostro laptops from Dell BIOS setup. I personally don’t like this feature.
